Ingredients
2 ears of corn
1 white bitter melon
½ bowl of soaked lily flowers
Condiments
½ tbsp. sea salt
Steps
1. Wash all ingredients. Seed the bitter melon and cut into rectangular pieces. Cut corn into small sections. Cut off any tough stalks on the lily flowers.
2. Bring water to a boil and add the corn and bitter melon. Simmer under low heat for 30 minutes. Add lily flowers and sea salt, and cook for 2 more minutes before serving.
Information
Lily flowers contain higher amounts of carotene than carrots, and are also rich in other nutrients. Sailors often used lily flowers as the main dish during voyages due to its high nutritional value. In Chinese medicine, lily flowers are believed to be able to enrich the blood and energy, strengthen tendons and bones, and widen the chest cavity. They are also good for combating depression, neurasthenia, forgetfulness, and insomnia.
